Lewisham West & Penge Benefits from Unprecedented Measures Announced by the Chancellor

The furlough and self-employment schemes have been a lifeline for millions of people and businesses. 
  • The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has supported nearly 9 million jobs, at a value of £20 billion, benefitting over a million businesses. 
  • More than 2 million self-employed people are receiving support through the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme. 
  • Figures for Lewisham West & Penge show that 12,100 jobs have been protected through the furlough scheme. There are also 5,500 self-employed people benefitting from £17,300,000 of support.

Cllr Peter Fortune welcomes boost of 714 more police officers for Metropolitan Police


London Assembly candidate for Bexley & Bromley, councillor Peter Fortune, has welcomed the announcement that police ranks in the Metropolitan Police have been bolstered with an additional 714 officers since the government launched its major recruitment drive in September 2019.

£9,067,837 Extra for local council services across Bromley


  • The Government is providing an additional £1.6 billion to local authorities so they have the resources they need to respond to the coronavirus pandemic. 
  • This is in addition to the £1.6 billion already announced in March. 
  • Bromley Council allocated total of £16,640,141 to continue providing essential services and support to those who need it the most.

Penge Conservatives have welcomed news that Bromley Council will receive a share of an extra £1.6 billion in funding to make sure councils can continue to support their communities and deliver vital services through this challenging time.

1917 small businesses across Bexley & Bromley receive Government coronavirus support


  • The Government has distributed more than £12 billion to local authorities for the small business grants scheme. 
  • More than £6 billion has already been paid out to half a million business properties.
  • Bexley allocated £36,438,000 to support up to 2,715 business properties. 
  • Bromley allocated £52,482,000 to support up to 3,316 business properties.


1917 business properties across Bexley & Bromley have already received grants as part of the Government’s Small Business Grants Scheme. In total, more than £27,615,000 has made its way to small businesses across the two areas.
